Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club confirmed that Jay Rich-Baghuelou has joined the academy, following a successful trial period. The 20-year-old - who moved from Australia three years ago where he spent time with Gold Coast City FC - has previously played for Dulwich Hamlet before most recently turning out for Welling United, where he made 53 appearances for the National League South side according to the Crystal Palace's official website.

Rich-Baghuelou - who stands at a towering 6 foot 5 - has signed a contract with the south Londoners until the summer of 2021 following a successful trial period with the Eagles, in which he has clearly impressed at centre-back given the club's decision to keep him.

It is not quite the Jarrod Bowen or Nathan Ferguson that Crystal Palace supporters would presumably have been hoping to see don the red and blue following the end of January, although it is encouraging to see the academy be focused on.

In an exclusive interview with Welling last year, Rich-Baghuelou described himself as an "ambitious" player who "likes to compete and dominate" - he definitely speaks well for a young man.

Let's see how the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news...

To kick off the discussion, Tony Hart said that it "sounds very positive" and that it "would be great" if more academy players could make it through to the first-team squad.

Elsewhere, these two fans were slightly more grumpier about the signing, expressing pessimism over Rich-Baghuelou's chances of ever making it at Selhurst Park.

Craig said that he can't wait for the centre-back to be released next summer, while Lee said that the 20-year-old joins the academy "never to be seen near" the first XI - give the lad a chance!

Meanwhile, these two supporters - named Malcolm and Josh- were feeling sarcastic after hearing the news.

Josh said that it "makes up for deadline day" - in which the Eagles signed nobody - whereas Malcom said that it makes up for the club's failure to land Bowen and Ferguson.

It is quite obvious that Rich-Baghuelou's arrival does neither of those things.

Lastly, Joe Walker questioned Rich-Baghuelou's inclusion in the academy, suggesting that he looks a lot older than a player who should be in the youth ranks.

Calling all transfer experts! How much did each of these Deadline Day signings cost?
