Swiss star keen on Crystal Palace move

Tranquillo Bernetta (Schalke)Schalke midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta is open to a move to Crystal Palace, according to reports from The Express.

The Swiss star is desperate to leave the Bundesliga side, after growing frustrated by his lack of first-team action.

Palace have enquired about Bernetta’s situation, but are believed to face competition from a number of Serie A clubs – including Chievo and Parma.

However, the 28-year-old is thought to be keen on a move to England, putting the Eagles in pole position.

Ian Holloway is desperate to add at least one big name layer to his squad in a bid to help them steer clear of an immediate return to the Championship.

Bernetta only joined Schalke last summer from domestic rivals Bayer Leverkusen, and is believed to earn around £50,000-per-week.

Palace would demand that the versatile midfielder took a significant cut on this figure, which could scupper a move.

Holloway may instead opt to pursue a loan deal, in which he would demand that the German club subsidise the player’s earnings.

Palace have also been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner, but the Danish striker’s wage demands are, again, believed to be a barrier.

Could Tranquillo Barnetta add the quality Crystal Palace need to avoid relegation?
