Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace have long been searching for a centre-forward capable of scoring in the Premier League week-in-week-out.

As a team, they are way too reliant on their wingers Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend to provide the bulk of their goals and assists.

In the last week it was included in a report from The Burnley Express that the Eagles could be viewing that man as Jay Rodriguez of West Bromwich Albion after showing interest in him.

The outlet also claim that due to a clause in his contract, the 29-year-old will be available for purchase for just £5m plus £5m in add-ons during this summer transfer window. However, Palace may need to act quickly if they want to secure the one-cap England international's signature with a whole host of other Premier League clubs also in the race.

In light of this, here are the verdicts of three Football FanCast writers on whether Hodgson should sign Rodriguez...

Charles Jones

"I think this deal represents good value for Palace. Jay Rodriguez has proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer in the Premier League and for an initial £5m, he is certainly worth a go. If he can recapture the form he showed at Southampton this could be one of the bargains of the season."

Billy Meyers

"I don't think this is what Crystal Palace should be looking for. Rodriguez is a good player and has impressed in the Premier League before, but the Eagles have to be absolutely certain that the next striker they bring in is either an exciting prospect or a guaranteed success. The supporters simply won't put up with another failure of a striker, no matter how cheap he is."

Matt Dawson

"Jay Rodriguez is never going to live up to the heights of the 22 goals he scored last season in the Premier League if he makes the move but that doesn't stop him from being a superb bit of business by the Eagles if they do complete a deal. At the price quoted you can't really go wrong, especially after the dismal return the majority of Palace's strikers supplied last term."
