Sky Sports have reported in the last week that Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace are keen on a move for Brentford star Ollie Watkins.
But the Eagles won’t be the only Premier League club chasing the 23-year-old’s signature during the summer transfer window as Sheffield United lead the race and Southampton are also interested.
Whilst the others too all have their reasons, the south London club are going to need all the attacking force they can get their hands on ahead of next season if they lose Wilfried Zaha.
Palace are a different side without the Ivorian and it’s likely going to take more than one or two players to replace his goals and assists at Selhurst Park, though Watkins would be able to help do that.
The Englishman has been at Griffin Park for two years now following a switch from Exeter City in 2017, having progressed through the academy of the Devon outfit, and has flourished.
The above infographic contains some key attacking statistics from the Sky Bet Championship 2018/2019 season.
As you can see, the number 11 racked up an impressive 41 appearances over the course of the term and netted ten goals, many of which were vital in the Bees finishing in mid-table rather than fighting the drop.

But it’s not just goals that he brings to the table – there are assists too with a cool six, proving Watkins both scores and creates with regularity.
An average of 2.2 shots per game and 1.7 key passes per game further back up those points, displaying that the energetic charge never ceases to try to make things happen in the final third.
It’s these eye-catching stats that prove the Englishman would be a hit at Selhurst Park, aiding in replacing two key facets of Zaha’s overall game. Watkins is ready to make the step up and even if the 26-year-old stays in south London, Palace should want to make sure it’s them that give him his big chance.
