The Guardian is reporting that Christian Benteke is set to join Crystal Palace from Liverpool in a deal reportedly worth £31.5 million.
It’s thought the deal will consist of an initial £27 million fee before another £4.5 million in add ons to take the fee past the £30 million mark.
It’s a possible deal that demonstrates the huge wealth now available to all Premier League clubs thanks to the ever growing financial pull of the division as well as the new TV rights deal coming into play for 2016/17 and Benteke will surely jump at the chance to reignite his career after seeing it falter last season at Anfield.
The Belgian struggled to nail down a place in the side under both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp and it was evident that his confidence was shot to bits by the end of the season.
It was this lack of confidence that led to Benteke being ridiculed a lot last year too and now Palace are on the receiving end on some themselves for lodging such a hefty bid for a player who failed to make a mark last season – here are some of the best reactions on Twitter around the possible deal…
