Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club's official account revealed that Connor Wickham had joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan until the end of the campaign.

The former Ipswich striker has returned to Hillsborough, where he spent time on loan from Sunderland - he made 17 appearances for the Owls, scoring nine goals and recording three assists.

It is an especially strange move from the south Londoners, as they failed to bring another striker in on deadline day which means that Roy Hodgson has Cenk Tosun, Jordan Ayew and Christian Benteke as his centre-forward options going into the second half of the season.

Interestingly, it comes as even more of an odd move seeing as Wickham has actually been quite effective of late.

The 26-year-old scored a late equaliser against Norwich on New Year's Day, having grabbed an assist for Ayew's late winner against West Ham on Boxing Day.

Wickham also played somewhat of a part in the Eagles' late equaliser against Manchester City, jostling with Fernandinho in the box before the Brazilian inadvertently fired the ball past his own teammate in goal, Ederson.

Let's see how the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news...

To kick off the reaction, these two supporters didn't sound very pleased with Wickham's departure.

Matt called it a "ridiculous decision" - our aforementioned points about the striker's recent impact reinforce this - while Sam Waters simply said that he would "like a word" with club chairman Steve Parish.

Elsewhere, these fans also voiced their displeasure at the announcement.

Adam Jones echoed Jack's previous point in saying that Crystal Palace are "so messed up" - another fan got in on the act by branding the decision to loan Wickham out as "wrong".
