As few teams will not be competing in the FA Cup a well earned break is the perfect tonic in this long and perilous season. For struggling teams, putting in the graft on the training ground could be the perfect opportunity to save their season as the climax to the 2015/2016 Premier League campaign draws near. However, if you’ve just been beaten 5-1 by Chelsea, jetting off for a holiday wouldn’t necessarily be the first thing that springs to mind, unless of course you’re Newcastle United.
Another one of manager Steve McClaren’s outrageous decisions has caught the eye of the footballing world, provoking a negative response. With the Magpies battling against relegation and the fans witnessing several derisory performances resulting in brutal thrashings, the decision to jet off to Spain for a bit of sun was very unexpected. The St James Park outfit have 18 days off with some of it being in Spain for some warm weather training instead of grafting in the North East to resolve the plethora of problems Newcastle are experiencing.
Once more, this could’ve been the perfect opportunity for new signings Andros Townsend, Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet to get more familiar with their surroundings at Newcastle, but instead, within a blink of an eye, they’re being sent out to a different environment, not to mention while in Spain, training will not be the only thing they’ll be doing. A couple of nights out in a warm climate with some cheeky beers could be a common scenario. Instead, the players should be being grilled on the many mistakes they’re making.
