Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes that Dele Alli has a streak in him that could prove costly to England at a major tournament.

It has been evident over the last few seasons that the talented 21-year-old has an aggressive side that can sometimes result in disciplinary action.

On Monday night, the Tottenham Hotspur star came under fire after raising his middle finger during the second half of England's 2-1 victory over Slovakia.

Alli has insisted on Twitter that his gesture was not aimed at the referee, but at his teammate Kyle Walker as a "joke".

Redknapp, who played for Tottenham between 2002 and 2005, has condemned the attack-minded player for his actions.

The retired footballer believes that it is important not to drain the aggression out of Alli's game, but he is concerned that his actions could end up ruining campaigns at future tournaments for England.

The 44-year-old told the Daily Mail:

"Of course his childish gesture on Monday set a bad example, and on another day it could have seen him sent off. With Dele, there is always the risk that he could cost England at a tournament.

"But that same streak is what drives him to conjure those moments of magic that will win matches for Tottenham and England. It is what makes him such a brilliant player."

Alli is expected to be back in action for Tottenham this weekend when the North London outfit face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
