According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are lining up a January move for Manchester United flop Memphis Depay.
Well, the £25m winger has struggled to hold down a first-team spot at Man United ever since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015, and it appears the Dutchman will have to leave Old Trafford if he wants to play regular football.
Last year, he failed to convince compatriot Louis van Gaal that he was worth a place in the starting XI, and it has been the same story under Jose Mourinho this term – he has made just six appearances in all competitions.
Now Ronald Koeman, who was interested in signing the attacker when he was in charge of Southampton, is understood to be considering a move for the 22-year-old, although he could face competition from Serie A duo AC Milan and AS Roma.
In a word, probably. The Netherlands international has seemingly struggled with the pressure of his price-tag at such a big club, and he would be under much less scrutiny with Koeman’s Toffees, who are in need of a further attacking spark alongside Romelu Lukaku.
At the moment, Koeman’s first choice wide men are Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie, but with little competition beyond those two, Depay would provide some much needed quality in wide areas, as well as through the middle.
