The Swans’ skipper has attracted serious attention from the Merseyside club of late, who are believed to be readying a second offer for him after an initial £10m bid was rebuffed earlier this week.
And their hopes of snapping up the Welshman have been boosted, with reports claiming that Mbodji has emerged as a like-for-like replacement.
The Senegalese defender has starred for Anderlecht in recent times, and it’s understood that talks regarding a transfer have taken place.
As well as Swansea, Sunderland are mooted suitors for the 26-year-old centre-back.
Mbodji has been capped 24 times at senior international level by Senegal, and is likely to be involved in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
