Porto have named their price for goalscoring machine Moussa Marega, and Everton should absolutely revisit their interest in the striker.

What's the story?

According to Jornal de Notícias (via Sport Witness), any clubs interested in the electric Marega this summer will have to trigger his €40m (about £35m) release clause.

Marega was linked with a move to Everton earlier this year, and the Sport Witness report names both the Toffees and West Ham as interested parties, as well as Chris Hughton’s Brighton.

The report claims the player wants to leave Porto, so it is now just a matter of who is willing to trigger the release clause.

While Everton already have Cenk Tosun up front, £35m is not a lot for a striker who bagged 22 goals in 29 league games last season, and the Toffees should jump at the chance to sign the versatile Marega.

Together with Tosun?

Porto boasted one of the most devastating attacking duos in Europe last season, and Everton can do the exact same if Marco Silva can figure out how to pair Marega with Tosun.

At Porto, the powerful Mali international played as the second striker alongside Vincent Aboubakar, who himself grabbed 15 league goals in 28 games.

Silva usually opts for a 4-3-3 formation, but it would be worth switching things up to get Tosun the support he so desperately needs. The Turkish striker looked great when he got chances last season, but the Toffees have to get more firepower around him. That’s where Marega comes in.

The 6 ft 1 striker is surprisingly good with the ball at his feet, averaging 1.4 dribbles per game last season, and he isn’t afraid to create chances for his teammates either, averaging nearly one key pass per game.

He is also extremely versatile, and spent some time on both wings for the Portuguese champions last season, so could actually fit into Silva’s 4-3-3 if needs must.

Above all else though, the 27 year-old is a constant goal threat, averaging over three shots per game on his way to an incredible 22 league goals in 29 appearances.

It was all too easy to defend against Everton last season, but worrying about both Marega and Tosun would be a terrifying prospect for opposition teams. Everton must trigger the striker’s release clause… or somebody else will.

So, Everton fans, would you back a 35m swoop for Marega? Could he bring the best out of Tosun? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
