Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is rumoured to be a target, but with Chelsea having launched a £38m move for the Senegalese ace, the Merseysiders’ hopes of luring in the 6ft. 5” enforcer in appear slim.

And now reports claim that they’ve turned to his compatriot, Anderlecht’s Mbodji.

The club’s new director of football, Walsh, was the mastermind behind some of Leicester’s title-winning signings and is understood to have been looking at the imposing defender while at the King Power Stadium.

If the Goodison Park outfit move before August 5, they will be able to trigger a release clause of just £6.2m in Mbodji’s contract.
