Sky Sports news reporter Alan Myers has said on Twitter that he thinks Everton will sign a couple of new faces before the transfer deadline next week.

What did he say?

So far this month despite the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti in December, the only major piece of business at Goodison Park has been the loan departure of Cenk Tosun to Crystal Palace, with Jarrad Branthwaite linking up with the U23s having also signed from Carlisle United.

A Toffees supporter on the social media platform asked Myers whether fans could expect any incomings before January 31st following what has been a quiet month to date, and he responded with the following: "I think there will be a couple of new faces".

Presumably by saying a couple he thinks there will be two new arrivals coming to USM Finch Farm in the next 10 days, which would back up what Sky Sports said earlier this month when they said the club was looking for a new central defender and central midfielder.

Will they get two?

It's difficult to say.

In the main transfer rumours have been few and far between this month, although the likes of Emre Can and Krzysztof Piatek (The Sunday Mirror, January 19, Page 66) have been linked in recent days.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think...

It will be interesting to see whether a striker could be on the agenda given Tosun's exit, but a central midfielder and a centre-back certainly looked to be needed more than any other positions.

Ancelotti currently only has senior options in Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina to pick from at the heart of his defence, while the likes of Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin have often underwhelmed in the middle of the park - the former duo picked up frankly awful ratings from The Liverpool Echo for their displays in the 1-0 defeat against a severely-weakened Liverpool side earlier this month for example.

Myers certainly expects some business though, and Everton fans will be hoping that he is right as they look to have a strong end to the Premier League season.
