According to Sky Sports, Everton are reportedly considering making a bid for Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco, who has been previously praised by former Toffees manager Roberto Martinez.

What's the word, then?

Well, Sky Sports provided an update on the players that the Merseyside outfit have been linked with this month, with boss Carlo Ancelotti reportedly ready to overhaul his squad.

Sky Sports say that he is looking at a loan move for Real Madrid attacker James Rodriguez, as well as considering making offers for Carrasco and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Everton's only January addition to date has been young defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Carlisle United, who will link up with the U23s.

Would Carrasco be a good addition?

He would certainly be an interesting one.

While his record of 24 goals and 17 assists in 52 appearances for Dalian Yifang is impressive, it has obviously come in a weaker league than many in Europe.

When he was with Atletico Madrid previously he netted 23 times and set up 17 more for his teammates, but this time it was in 124 outings, while at Monaco he had 20 and 24 respectively in 103 matches.

His record for his country isn't that impressive either with six goals in 41 caps for Belgium, although he only started in 27 of those.

He drew praise from Martinez back in October 2019 as the Red Devils beat San Marino 9-0 to qualify for Euro 2020 however, after handing 18-year-old teammate Yari Verschaeren a late penalty that he was designated to take.

Call yourself an Everton expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

The Spanish manager said post-match, via Goal: "If you see Yannick Carrasco giving the ball to an 18-year-old for the penalty, it is that human quality of this group that gives me the most pleasure."

That suggests that Carrasco is a good character, but it still remains to be seen whether he is the right man to strengthen the Everton squad right now – especially as the majority of his outings during his career where his position has been recorded by Transfermarkt have come on the left wing.

The Toffees already have Bernard, Richarlison and Alex Iwobi to play there, so it makes little sense to get another.
