Some Everton fans on Twitter have called on the club to sign Leeds United holding midfielder Kalvin Phillips, with the majority influenced by his performance in his side's 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on Monday.

The Yorkshire outfit travelled to the Emirates to face the Gunners in the third round of the FA Cup, and should have been ahead at half-time given some of the first-half opportunities they had to score against Mikel Arteta's men.

Phillips was especially impressive during the opening 45 minutes in north London as he showed signs that he can step up to the Premier League with ease having been a consistent impressive performer for the Championship club.

As per SofaScore, he was the second-highest rated player for both teams, making nine tackles, four key passes and winning 10 of the 15 duels he faced in the capital.

It continued his fine form the high-flyers in England's second tier, where he has averaged three tackles a game for Marcelo Bielsa's team in 2019/20, according to WhoScored.

Everton's central midfield issues were shown during their defeat against Liverpool on Sunday, when Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin – especially in the second half – simply couldn't compete against two youngsters and Adam Lallana in the middle of the park.

Indeed, one supporter believes Phillips is way above the level of the aforementioned duo, as well as Fabian Delph and Tom Davies - considering he has never played in the Premier League that is a big claim, but on this showing the potential is there for him to shine there in the future.

Others simply urged the Merseyside outfit to move for the 24-year-old star, with one telling them to get him before others realise.
