Everton have reportedly joined the race to sign Emil Forsberg this summer, with the Swedish playmaker looking likely to leave Red Bull Leipzig.

What's the story?

Several teams have expressed an interest in Leipzig’s Forsberg, and Calciomercato claim Everton are considering a swoop for the 26 year-old.

The Swedish international struggled with injuries last season, but at his best he is one of Europe’s elite playmakers, and his stuttering season could actually help the Toffees land him if their rivals decide to look elsewhere.

Forsberg has attracted interest from Liverpool and Arsenal in the past, so winning the race for his signature would be a major coup for the Toffees.

The Leipzig star featured in Sweden’s heart-breaking loss to Germany on Saturday, winning two aerial duels, completing two dribbles and making one key pass.

Could he transform the Toffees?

If you have never watched Forsberg and are sat wondering what all the fuss is about, think Christian Eriksen with more pace.

The 26 year-old grabbed just five goals and four assists last season as he struggled with injuries, but racked up eight goals and an incredible 19 assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances the season before.

Forsberg is an excellent crosser, is fantastic at carrying the ball forward on counter attacks, and always knows how to find that killer pass to cut through a deep defence. He may even give Gylfi Sigurdsson a run for his money on set pieces.

Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the 37-cap international wouldn’t come cheap, but his ability to play in multiple positions across the attack would be a huge boost for Marco Silva.

His one weakness is that he can be a bit careless in possession sometimes, mainly due to the fact that he is always trying a positive, dangerous pass, helping him average two key passes per game last season.

He has also spent the last two seasons playing in Ralph Hasenhüttl’s high-octane pressing system, so it would be an easy transition into Marco Silva’s 4-3-3.
