Brazilian radio journalist Bruno Flores of Radio Grenal has tweeted that an Everton move to sign Gremio attacker Everton Soares is "well advanced".

What did he say?

Well, Sky Sports reported earlier this month that the Merseyside outfit were keen on the 23-year-old, and it appears as though a deal could be edging a little closer after Flores' latest update on social media.

His tweet translated to: "Everton's departure (Cebolinha) for Everton FC is well advanced. Details are lacking between the clubs for the deal to be completed. Transaction takes place in this window so that the athlete arrives in England and already acts with the other companions."

It appears as though while things are advanced, still no agreement has been reached in terms of some "details" being agreed between the parties, which may well relate to a transfer fee, for example.

The update also makes it clear that should a deal be done, the Toffees want the Brazil international in their squad now.

Will this happen before the deadline?

It has been a relatively quiet transfer window for Everton when it comes to rumours, but the one with Everton Soares has probably been one of the more long-lasting and prominent ones.

That may suggest this very much has legs as we go into the final week of the window.

The only real issue could be on where Carlo Ancelotti intends to play the South American winger should he arrive at Goodison Park, given he has generally – in the matches where Transfermarkt has recorded his position – operated from the left during his career.

Call yourself an Everton expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

Of course, the Merseyside outfit already have Alex Iwobi, Richarlison and Bernard who can all play on the left-hand side, while director of football Marcel Brands said at the club's AGM earlier this month that they lack depth on the right.

Perhaps he could be being bought to play there, but if he is for the left then you would have to say this move makes a little less sense.
