According to The Mirror, Dominic Calvert-Lewin wants to stay at Everton this summer and fight for his spot in the team despite strong interest from Bournemouth.

What's the story?

Calvert-Lewin started eight of Sam Allardyce's first 10 games in charge when the former England boss replaced Ronald Koeman at Everton back in November.

However, the January arrival of Turkish forward Cenk Tosun saw Calvert-Lewin's game time seriously harmed in the second half of the 2017-18 campaign.

According to The Mirror, Bournemouth have approached Everton over a potential deal for Calvert-Lewin, but the England Under-21 international wants to stay on Merseyside.

The report claims that the forward is intent on impressing new Toffees boss Marco Silva during pre-season as he eyes a key role for the club during the 2018-19 campaign.

What does the future hold for Calvert-Lewin?

Calvert-Lewin, who is valued at £13.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, joined Everton from Sheffield United in August 2016, and the young Englishman scored once in 11 appearances during his first season at the club.

The 21-year-old might not have played much Premier League football in the second half of the 2018-19 season, but he still made 44 appearances in all competitions last term - scoring a respectable eight times in the process.

Wayne Rooney is expected to move on this summer, which would certainly boost Calvert-Lewin's chances of regular football.

That said, new Everton boss Silva is expected to move for at least one new centre-forward in this summer's transfer window.

There is no question that Calvert-Lewin is moving in the right direction at Everton, and he is right to want to prove himself at Goodison Park following an impressive 2017-18 season.
