According to an interview he did, via The Liverpool Echo, Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has labelled outcast striker Cenk Tosun as being "really good", which should be a huge boost for the Turkey international.

What's the word, then?

Well, the 28-year-old has barely featured for the Merseyside outfit this term having only played 328 minutes in all competitions, with just 259 of those coming under previous permanent boss Marco Silva.

The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean were often preferred in the starting XI ahead of him, and things have carried on in that same vein since Carlo Ancelotti took the helm.

The aforementioned trio have all started in those positions up top against Burnley and Newcastle United, while Tosun has had to make do with being an unused substitute in both of the Italian's Premier League matches in charge to date.

However, speaking after the 2-1 win at St James' Park, Ancelotti told The Liverpool Echo that he was happy with the striking options he has inherited.

He said: "Upfront, we have top strikers. We also have Cenk Tosun who is a top scorer and really good, we have Moise Kean, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin."

Boost for Tosun

To be honest, it looked as though there was only one way the Turkish centre-forward was going given his lack of minutes for the Toffees this term, and that was the exit door.

The £27m signing in January 2018 has ultimately never made a real impact at Everton under either Sam Allardyce or Silva, with an overall record of 10 goals in 51 outings in all competitions.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think...

The fact he was subbed on and then off again by Duncan Ferguson –not reacting well after coming off – in the draw against Arsenal earlier this month was hardly a glowing endorsement of his qualities either.

However, it appears as though Ancelotti could be ready to put a much-needed arm around his shoulder given his latest comments, and boosting his ego a little at the same time.

The player can take some heart that he has a top European manager with an impressive honours list who likes him, and he must take advantage of it both on the training pitch and when his chance finally comes on the pitch.
