Marcel Brands and Marco Silva have quite a task on their hands overhauling Everton’s ageing squad, and they should quite simply break the bank next season for Harry Maguire.

Everton signed two new centre backs this summer, bringing in Kurt Zouma on loan alongside Yerry Mina on a permanent deal.

While this can certainly solve their centre back problems in the short-term, Zouma is unlikely to make his temporary deal a permanent one, so the Toffees will once again be on the lookout for a new central defender next summer.

Phil Jagielka is nearing the end of his career and no Everton fan wants to see Ashley Williams wear the blue shirt again, so another starter is needed to compete with Michael Keane and Mina.

Maguire seems the perfect candidate, as he has the ball-playing abilities to help build out form the back in Silva’s free-flowing system.

The 25 year-old was phenomenal at the World Cup in Russia, and has had a solid start to the season for Leicester as well.

While he has recently signed a new contract at the King Power, the promise of playing European football could lure him away, if the Toffees can achieve that this season.

Maguire was at his very best against Spain on Monday night, as Gareth Southgate’s side held on for a dramatic 3-2 win in Seville.

The colossal Leicester man was an absolute beast at the back as usual, winning two aerial duels, two tackles and making a truly remarkable 11 clearances.

Valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, he wouldn’t come cheap, but the Toffees have splashed out big amounts for players like Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson, both of whom are proving to be huge successes.

Sometimes you have to gamble, and paying the big bucks to put Maguire alongside Yerry Mina would give Silva a formidable partnership, both of which are comfortable on the ball and well capable of popping up with some set piece goals.

So, Everton fans, would you break the bank next summer to bring Maguire in? Could he be the long-term replacement for Jagielka? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
