Coutinho & Sturridge wouldn’t make Everton XI… Liverpool slammed by ex-Toffee

Former Everton defender Michael Ball has claimed that none of Liverpool’s first-team stars would make into the Everton XI for this weekend’s Merseyside derby.

The Reds and the Toffees are set to clash on Sunday in the latest edition of Merseyside’s great footballing rivalry, with the blue half of the city, arguably, favourites at Goodison Park with their comeback win over West Brom having lifted them above the Anfield outfit and into fifth.

Although the level of spending on transfers has increased at Everton over the course of the past few years, Liverpool have by far and away a more valuable squad in terms of fees and wages, but Ball has claimed that not one single player from Brendan Rodgers squad would make it into his old side’s XI:

“I believe the Blues won’t have a better chance of winning a derby so comfortably in a while.” He wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“There’s not one Liverpool player I would want in the Everton line-up.

“Daniel Sturridge is back but how fit is he? Philippe Coutinho is their danger man but if we stop him and Sturridge then I think we’ll be in a strong position.”

Ball went on to further irk Liverpool fans by hinting that he sees the Reds as “underdogs”:

“Just because we’re in fifth, it doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to win the game.

“On many occasions, Everton have been lower in the table than Liverpool and still managed to get a result. Beware the underdog.”
