Danny Rose would be the perfect Baines replacement at Everton

According to a report from the Mirror, Everton have joined the race for Tottenham left back Danny Rose.

What’s the story?

Danny Rose is looking certain to leave Tottenham this season, and reports suggest the Toffees have identified the Englishman as their number one target to replace Leighton Baines.

Baines, who turns 34 this year, has been a big boost for the Toffees since his return from injury, but has certainly showed his age at times.

Rose, who is reportedly on around £60,000 per week in North London, has been heavily linked to Manchester United with his time at Tottenham almost certainly drawing to a close.

Everton are supposedly looking to swoop in and steal the deal as the Red Devils have cooled their interest.

Good move for the Merseysiders?

Rose, who is likely to be named in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad on Wednesday, tried to force a move away from Spurs last summer but was unsuccessful.

The 27 year-old’s playing time has suffered as a result of those actions, starting just nine league games this season.

That said, Rose is truly a top full back when he is fully fit and firing, so he would be a major coup if the Toffees could pull it off.

The England international may even be better served at Goodison than at Old Trafford, where he would face competition for the spot from other international stars.

Everton are of course likely to be under new management by the time the transfer window opens, and an attacking coach like Marco Silva could surely work wonders with the flying full back.
