Defrel interest makes no sense for Everton; they should keep faith in Tosun

Everton are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing Roma forward Gregoire Defrel, according to Corriere dello Sport.

What’s the word?

Whenever a new manager takes over a club, he immediately wants to put his stamp on the team.

There is no better way to do that than by recruiting new players in a transfer window, but one of Marco Silva’s alleged targets for Everton is unlikely to get hearts racing.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Toffees, along with West Ham United and Crystal Palace, are interested in Roma forward Defrel.

The 27-year-old signed for the Serie A club from Sassuolo on loan in 2017 before making the move permanent.

Why is Defrel wrong for Everton?

If Silva wants to add another thread of attacking strength to his lineup, then he is looking in the wrong places.

Last season, the Frenchman scored just one goal in 20 appearances for Roma, which was a huge difference to the 16 he struck for Sassuolo in the previous season.

The fact that his figures are polar opposites should be a concern for Everton, who are not in desperate need of an attacker due to Cenk Tosun.

The Turkish international took time to finds his feet following his move to Everton from Besiktas in January.

However, he eventually went on to score five goals in 14 Premier League outings.

Considering that Tosun is yet to have a full season behind him, it would not make any sense for Silva to bring in a new forward who is not an upgrade on his current options.
