Djibril Sidibe bounced back for Everton against Chelsea after a poor performance versus Liverpool in midweek.

On the chalkboard

The Frenchman was substituted on 35 minutes, with the Toffees 3-1 down, at Anfield having played his part in those early concedes.

However, on Saturday, against Chelsea, he was perhaps one of the best players on the pitch.

Per WhoScored, he had 71 touches of the ball throughout the 90 minutes and also registered three key passes - including the assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin's early opener.

While his pass success rate was 71%, Sidibe made seven successful tackles up against Christian Pulisic, while also making three clearances and four interceptions.

This was an excellent performance from a player who could quite easily have folded after his substitution on Wednesday but instead, he stepped up and turned in a performance that was integral to his side’s victory over Frank Lampard’s men.

A sign of his mentality

Sidibe is on loan at Everton from AS Monaco and has made seven starts in the Premier League.

He is essentially on trial at the club, attempting to earn a permanent move, and he will have done his chances the world of good with his showing versus the Blues.

Up against Pulisic, a player who has scored six goals and registered six assists in all competitions, he managed to limit the American to just two shots on goal, with only one on target.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think...

If the France international can continue to play in this way, the Toffees will have little choice but to bring him in on a permanent basis.

And when that performance comes after such a poor display, it only adds to the evidence that he indeed has the mentality to cut it in the English top-flight.

Meanwhile, Marco Silva was let down by one man before his Everton sacking.
