Everton have often been looked at as the second best team on Merseyside, yet always seem to attract good players to Goodison Park.
This season is no different, with the team boasting some of the Premier League’s best talent. However, with a big summer coming up, could Everton be at risk of loosing suck key players?
With the European Championships this summer, many players will performing for their country, and sadly for Everton, the likes Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu all could be involved in France. Other players, like Kevin Mirallas and James McCarthy could also attract attention, which will make it very hard for Everton to say no should a big offer come in.
Both Lukaku and Barkley are 23 this year, and are just one good tournament away from having top clubs chase after them. Barkley is reportedly being looked at by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and even Liverpool. He will be a big part of Roy’s squad, providing that something bit extra that other teams don’t know how to deal with.
Lukaku is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe right now, and having already been at Chelsea, he is regularly linked with teams like Manchester United and Bayern Munich. The Belgium international has already proven himself both on an international level and in the Premier League, being a regular score for both West Brom and Everton in years gone by. If he were given more time at Chelsea he may still be there now, firing them to glory.
Deulofeu is another that has stood out for Everton this season, and Barcelona must be wondering why they let him go. The young Spaniard has been on form this season, working on the opposite side of Barkley and providing goals for Lukaku. Tearing up defences has been something he has done regularly, so much so he has been keeping Mirallas, Lennon and Pienaar out of Roberto Martinez’s side.
The Toffees will be hoping a lot of these players get injured before the tournament in France kicks off, so that they have a chance of holding on to these star players. Interest in Barkley and Lukaku will definitely come, especially if they have good tournaments.
Everton will struggle to say no to any big offer that comes their way, which will be a worry for Everton fans. It’s not that these players don’t deserve it, its more that they irreplaceable at Goodison Park.
