Speaking to the club's official website, Bernard has hailed teammate Richarlison as an "exceptional player".

What did he say?

Richarlison has enjoyed an impressive campaign thus far for Everton, scoring 11 times in 29 games across all competitions.

The Brazil international even saw his name linked with a move to Manchester United recently, and Bernard has provided an insight into what the former Watford man is like.

He said: "Richarlison is a bit like me. He is quite discreet day-to-day at the training ground. He jokes and relaxes. He’s quite a quiet person and listens a lot to those around him.

"He’s a great guy and an exceptional player. He’s a really good person, he’s got a massive heart and he really looks to help people."

Partnership

Building partnerships at the back is always a strong platform for a team to rely upon, but creating those further forward can help reap rich rewards too.

Having players who have got a really good understanding of their teammates helps attacks flow a bit more smoothly, with them playing off each other. And that is exactly why Bernard's admission that Richarlison is similar to him, and that he "listens a lot to those around him" is promising news for Everton.

As two Brazilians, the duo are likely to relate much more with each other, and their bond can help with things on the pitch too. They can develop a partnership and understanding of what the other person's strengths and weaknesses are, and link up far more effectively in attack.

Sometimes, it's not all about just sticking great players into a team and expecting them to shine. A lot of success can come down to whether they can gel together, and that is where off-the-pitch relationships can help. Bernard's verdict on his teammate is perhaps a sign that Everton have a potent partnership in the making.

Meanwhile, Everton's swoop for this starlet should spell the end for this Ronald Koeman signing.
