The Belgian international completed a shock deadline day loan move to the Toffees from Chelsea, rejecting advances from the likes of West Brom and West Ham.
His 17 Premier League goals for the Baggies last term – also during a loan spell – have made the 20-year-old one of the most feared forwards in the English top flight.
Martinez is thrilled to have him at Goodison Park, and feels that his abilities will make him the perfect forward for his side.
“I have been very impressed with Romelu,” he told The Metro.
“We have seen him develop into a top striker from the outside: at 16 he came through the ranks at Anderlecht and all of a sudden you can see the potential.
“When you get to work with him you can see he is a very mature boy after his experiences.
“He is really intelligent with good football knowledge and above everything he has a huge desire to succeed and that is exactly what we need in the dressing room.
“What he brings is something we haven’t got and that always excites you as a manager.
“That is our target. He is still very young and we hope it can be a perfect marriage over the next 10 months.”
Lukaku was unable to make his Everton debut during last weekend’s win over Chelsea due to clauses attached to the deal, but is set to play some part in Saturday’s clash with West Ham.
The youngster was expected to stay in London for the season, but Jose Mourinho’s decision to sign Samuel Eto’o saw a late loan move pushed through.
