Everton’s poor form away from Goodison Park continued on Sunday afternoon as Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth sent them back to Merseyside in defeat.

Snapshot

A brace from England striker Callum Wilson and a surprise Ryan Fraser free-kick meant that the Cherries picked up all three points on the south coast.

The Toffees could have potentially reached third spot in the league with a win, but now they are on the outside looking in after a particularly poor outing.

Marco Silva’s side failed to impress, showing further signs of inconsistency and in some ways that has to be down to the decisions made by the Portuguese boss.

Off the Bench

The former Watford manager elected for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in favour of £30m man Moise Kean and it appeared to be the right decision after the young striker headed home a Richarlison cross to tie the game up on the stroke of half-time.

But in the second half, he was majorly ineffective - registering one unsuccessful dribble and just six touches of the ball.

His replacement, Kean, managed nine touches when coming on as a substitute in the 71st minute, meaning he was more involved in a shorter space of time.

There are question marks over why the 19-year-old was even dropped in the first place.

Having been granted his first start of the season against Wolves just before the international break, Kean assisted one of their three goals and even recorded two shots, so the decision to drop the 6-foot striker seems rather harsh on the face of it.

And it would have done his confidence a world of good if he was continued to be trusted.

Everton were massively ineffective in the attacking third – they managed 163 passes, 64 more than the home side yet only managed to score one goal.

Calvert-Lewin also conceded three fouls, failing to live up to what is required from a lone striker – maybe the Italian was worth sticking with from the start.
