Everton boss keen to win race for Ghanaian freebie

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is desperate to win the race for Marseille’s Andre Ayew and has already sounded out the winger ahead of a possible free transfer this summer, according to reports from the Sunday People.

The 25-year-old speedster looks set to leave l’OM at the end of the season when his contract expires, and is a player in demand across Europe.

Martinez is extremely keen to get him to Goodison Park as he plots to rebuild from a disappointing 2014/15 campaign, and reports have revealed that he’s already travelled to France to personally speak to the player.

Ayew’s current £3m-a-year salary is a slight issue for Everton, but the club showed last season by paying £28m for Romelu Lukaku that they’re willing to invest in the right targets.

Roma are thought to be Everton’s strongest competitors for the African ace, who has been lauded for his pace on either flank.
