Over a month ago, Everton dismissed manager Ronald Koeman and they are yet to bring in a new face.

David Unsworth, who has been Under-23s coach since 2014, has been in temporary charge of the first team.

The 44-year-old made it clear that he wanted to be in contention for the permanent job, but the club's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has indicated that a new leader will be appointed.

The businessman made the claims in a statement to talkSPORT  and insisted that stability needs to be brought back into the Merseyside outfit.

“The first priority is to stabilise the club and finalise the appointment of a manager. We are close. Really best to say nothing more until a new [manager] is appointed and we climb up the table. Reports [in the media] are unfair but are best answered with performances.”

Former Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce was an early candidate, but later ruled himself out of the running.

Everton have been pursuing Marco Silva, but Watford have rejected approaches from the Merseyside outfit in what has been a frustrating period for the club.

Since Koeman left Goodison Park, the Toffees have suffered four defeats, recorded one win and one draw.
