Everton consider summer move for Angelino

According to The Sun, Everton are interested in signing Manchester City full-back Angelino in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Everton are expected to be busy this summer following the arrival of Marco Silva as head coach.

The Toffees are keen to close the gap on the top six in the Premier League next season, and will have funds to spend ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

According to The Sun, City defender Angelino is on the club’s wishlist, although Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also both interested in the Spaniard.

The report claims that Everton’s new sporting director Marcel Brands is a huge fan of Angelino, ¬†and previously tried to bring the defender to PSV during his time at the Dutch outfit.

Would Angelino be a good fit for Everton?

The 21-year-old joined City from Deportivo La Coruna in 2013, but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the reigning Premier League champions.

The defender has sampled first-team football out on loan, however, representing New York City FC, Girona and Mallorca before enjoying a fine spell at Dutch club NAC Breda – where he scored three times and registered seven assists in 35 appearances.

A former Spain Under-17 international, Angelino only has 12 months left to run on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, and would therefore not command a big transfer fee.

Everton could be in the market for a new left-back this summer when considering the speculation surrounding Leighton Baines, who is being linked with a move to the MLS.

Angelino might well need time to adapt to Premier League football, but he will be available for an extremely reasonable price this summer, and Everton should not hesitate in making a move.
