Everton could get affordable deal for Lindelof as Mourinho is under pressure to sell

Everton should try to cut a deal with Manchester United for defender Victor Lindelof, rated at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, amid claims by the Daily Mail that Jose Mourinho needs to sell before bringing in a new centre-back.

What’s the word?

The Merseyside outfit have a number of defenders at their disposal, but they leaked goals on a regular basis last season.

Michael Keane and Ashley Williams were inconsistent at the back, while Phil Jagielka was in and out of the team.

Mason Holgate was a positive light, but he is still developing his craft, which means that the Toffees could do with another established centre-back.

Lindelof has been linked with the Toffees before, but now seems like the right time for Marco Silva to swoop amid reports from the Daily Mail that United are looking to sell a defender in order to recruit a new one.

Is Lindelof a good option for Everton?

The Sweden international, who has earned 25 caps for his country, has struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old had to wait two months to make his Premier League debut, and from that point on he made just 16 more appearances in the top flight.

At Everton, the former Benfica player would likely form a centre-back pairing with Michael Keane, who has strength in the air and good in possession.

Lindelof has similar attributes to the Toffees’ former centre-back John Stones, who now plies his trade at Manchester City.

He is comfortable in bringing the ball out from the back and contributing to the offensive effort from deep.

Lindelof has not been given much of a chance to show his worth at United, but at Everton he could end up being a crucial member of the team.
