Since Carlo Ancelotti's arrival as Everton manager, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has looked a completely transformed player.

The striker has smashed in eight goals in just 12 games across all competitions under the Italian, and he has been a key reason behind why the Toffees now find themselves just six points off seventh-placed Sheffield United.

But on Sunday afternoon against Chelsea, Calvert-Lewin was conspicuously anonymous. The 22-year-old barely had a kick all game, and it was no surprise that Everton failed to find the back of the net, and lost 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.

As per Sofascore, he had just 18 touches of the ball in the time that he was on the pitch - to put that into context, Anthony Gordon had almost half that (eight), despite only featuring for the final 14 minutes. Calvert-Lewin made just eight total passes, and he looked completely starved of service. But equally, it didn't appear as though the forward looked to try and hunt the ball down in order to see more possession.

He saw his one attempt on goal end up off target, whilst he also didn't make a single defensive contribution either, drawing blanks for tackles and interceptions. Whilst that may not be the end of the world, it did point to how the 22-year-old couldn't even affect the Chelsea back-line into making mistakes. The Blues essentially enjoyed a field day in playing out from the back, registering 60% possession, and boasting an impressive 89% pass accuracy.

Calvert-Lewin looked a shadow of what he has done in recent games, and that is what should have left Ancelotti in disbelief. Having proven himself to be the side's talisman in the early weeks and months of his rein, the Italian saw his star forward simply go through the motions on Sunday, barely making his presence felt.

Meanwhile, Everton loanee can be the heir to this David Moyes signing.
