According to Turkish Football, Everton are interested in signing Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida in this summer's transfer window.

What's the story?

Everton are believed to be on the lookout for at least one new centre-back this summer due to the struggles of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams last season.

Middlesbrough's Ben Gibson is among those to be linked with a transfer to Goodison Park, but according to Turkish Football, the Merseyside outfit could move for Vida.

The report claims that Besiktas are prepared to sell Vida this summer despite the fact that the 29-year-old only made the move to the Turkish club earlier this year.

It is understood that the centre-back has simply not settled at Besiktas following a transfer from Dynamo Kiev back in January, and Everton could now bring him to England.

Would Vida be a good signing?

In short, yes. The 6ft centre-back is currently in action for Croatia at the 2018 World Cup, and has already put in two excellent performances for his nation.

Indeed, Vida helped Croatia keep a clean sheet in their opening group match against Nigeria, before excelling in Thursday night's shock 3-0 win over Argentina.

Valued at £6.3m by transfermarkt.co.uk, it is unlikely that Everton would have to break the bank for Vida when considering his current situation at Besiktas.

The Toffees were simply not good enough defensively last season, and there is no question that Vida has the qualities required to make a difference.

The centre-back played over 40 league games for Dinamo Zagreb ahead of a move to Dynamo Kiev in 2013, and was very impressive during his five and a half seasons in Ukraine.

Everton desperately need reinforcements this summer, and Vida would be a wonderful signing for the Merseyside outfit.
