According to The Mirror, Everton boss Marco Silva is interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria in this summer's transfer window.

What's the story?

Things are finally moving for Everton on the transfer front, and it is shaping up to be a very busy couple of weeks at Goodison Park as head coach Silva looks to put together a squad capable of challenging the top six in the Premier League next term.

Richarlison has arrived from Watford, whilst the Toffees are also believed to be targeting a new left-back ahead of the big kickoff in the Premier League.

According to The Mirror, the Merseyside outfit are now eyeing a summer swoop for Zakaria, who is a holding midfielder at German club Gladbach.

The 21-year-old is under contract with his Bundesliga outfit until the summer of 2022 having only joined from Young Boys last year, but it is understood that Everton are confident of turning his head.

Would Zakaria improve Everton?

In short, yes. The 6ft 2in ace was a part of the Switzerland side that competed at the 2018 World Cup, and has shown over the last 12 months that he is more than capable of holding his own in a major European league.

Last term, the 12-time international scored twice and provided three assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.

And he would be a huge upgrade on Morgan Schneiderlin, who has largely struggled to make his mark since moving to Everton from Manchester United in January 2017.

It is understood that Silva wants to play two holding midfielders in a 4-3-3 formation next season, and Zakaria is perfect for one of those two positions.

Gladbach will be desperate to keep hold of the Swiss this summer, but it would be a tremendous signing for Everton if they managed to pull it off.
