Everton face Serie A tussle for Brazilian ace

Fernando (Porto)Everton will have to fight off interest from Juventus and Inter Milan if they are to seal a January deal for Porto midfielder Fernando, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Toffees came close to securing the 26-year-old’s signature over the summer, but instead opted to pursue moves for James McCarthy and Gareth Barry.

Despite having a number of midfield options at his disposal, Goodison Park chief Roberto Martinez is still believed to be keen on Fernando.

However, the Spaniard now faces stiff competition in the shape of Juve and Inter.

The Serie A giants are both monitoring the Porto ace ahead of potential winter moves.

The Brazilian’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, which has forced the Portuguese champions to consider selling.

A fee of £6m may be enough to snap up the enforcer, who is believed to be keen to play his way into contention for a spot in his home nation’s World Cup squad, despite being yet to make an appearance in the iconic yellow shirt.

Although Juve and Inter could be considered as more illustrious names, Everton may be in with a chance due to the increased likelihood of first-team action on Merseyside.

Should Everton move for Fernando?
