Roberto Martinez is facing the prospect of losing out on top summer transfer target Jorginho, as Italian giants Fiorentina have entered the race for his signature, according to the Daily Star.
Everton were understood to have launched an official bid of £7.8million for the Hellas Verona star, with reports in Italy suggesting Merseyside rivals Liverpool had also expressed an interest.
The 21-year-old has been in such impressive form in Italy however, that now Serie A giants Fiorentina are set to launch a bid of their own.
Jorginho was an integral part of the Verona side that won promotion back to Serie A last season, making 41 appearances in total.
The Brazilian born starlet holds a contract until 2016 with the club, so he is not likely to walk away for cheap.
The news of Fiorentina’s interest will come as a bitter blow to Martinez, as it appears likely the youngster will look to stay in Italy.
Another player who could be joining La Viola shortly, is QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
The Brazilian was thought to be summer transfer target for Arsenal, although the Gunners have failed to yet launch a bid for the 33-year-old.
Cesar is now set to travel to Florence to hold talks with the club, after QPR accepted a £2.5million bid for his services.
