Gareth Southgate was always going to cause talking points with his first England squad as the interim national team manager.
Thrown in at the deep end after Sam Allardyce’s acrimonious exit, Southgate has announced his squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia with the likes of Glen Johnson back in the fold.

He’s also called-up Jesse Lingard as well as sticking with Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge, despite the calls from some fans to shake things up against, with all due respect, lesser opposition.
Southgate, a former international defender himself, has also left Ross Barkley out of the squad with players like Dele Alli set to take up the attacking midfield role and that has caused some Everton fans to voice their opinion on Twitter.
