Everton fans have been discussing a possible shock move for Rafael Benitez, and they’re completely split on the Spaniard.
For many Everton fans, the interest in Rafael Benitez is a non-starter, as no former Liverpool manager should ever be allowed to take the helm at Goodison.
Benitez won the Champions League with the Reds in 2005, and many Blues still haven’t forgiven him for branding them a “small club” back in 2007.
Marco Silva is odds on to be the new Everton boss, but a report from the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday claims the search is not over, and new sporting director Marcel Brands is considering other options.
The report from the Echo does not mention specific names, but Benitez has been linked with both the Everton and West Ham jobs in the last week or so, and only one of those is still available.
Former Arsenal men Arsene Wenger and Mikel Arteta have both been linked with the job, but there is no other candidate with the CV that Benitez can boast.
The current Newcastle boss has done exceptionally well with limited resources on Tyneside, and has multiple league titles to his name, as well as that famous Champions League medal.
Fans can’t decide on the tactical mastermind though, as some are yearning for a proven winner, but others are refusing to take a former Liverpool boss at Goodison.

Yes, A proven, prolifically successful European manager, If we are serious about our future ambitions he is absolutely the right manager.

Yes definitely but could we as fans accept that. In a football sense it is a no brainer. But from the red n blue side of things it may be tough. But above all he would be professional in his approach to the situation. But still probably a no goer.

I have always admired Benitez but fear that fans would not be prepared to accept the Liverpool connection.

As bad as it sounds he would be a better candidate than Silva but Everton fans will never see past the "small club" comment

No way, as good a manager as Rafa is and has been it would be a disaster waiting to happen, a few defeats and the fans would turn pretty quickly plus we need a young manager whos hungry and wants to develop with the club and to work with marcel brands to a build future success

I think so, I’d rather him than Arteta
