Kieran Dowell turned professional at Everton in 2014, but the midfielder has only made three first-team appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
Dowell’s debut for the Toffees came back in December 2014, but he has only appeared twice since then, and both of those appearances came during the 2015-16 season.
The 20-year-old was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest for the 2017-18 campaign, however, and he made a serious impression at the Championship outfit.
Indeed, Dowell ended the season with 10 goals and five assists in 43 appearances in all competitions – including nine Championship goals.
They are strong numbers for a midfielder at that sort of level, and as it stands, Dowell will return to Everton for pre-season training next month.
It remains to be seen whether Dowell is in the plans of new Everton boss Marco Silva.
The club’s supporters have been discussing the England Under-21 international on social media, and it would be fair to say that they are split when it comes to his immediate future.
A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Everton fans, who have also been discussing Sporting Lisbon forward Bas Dost, can be seen below:
He looks ready for some game time to me. Was often head and shoulders above every other player in the Championship games he featured in, so looks ready for the step up

Either in and give him game time or send him on loan to a lower Prem club who can guarantee gametime.

Either way needs a new contract as only 12 months left.

I would loan him out to a premier league club, lets see if he is up to the standard, obviuosly talented and probably naturally he tailed off with forest towards the end of last season, so lets see if he can play in the premiership week in week out.

Send him out on loan again, we’ll only destroy him first time he has a bad game or misplaces a pass a la Davies, Kenny, DCL……

I reckon we give him a go see what he like , before he left in pre season last year , we were scoring goals an I’m sure he was involved in a fair few
