Everton fans are absolutely delighted with the news that Steven Pienaar is the club’s new international ambassador, and want the South African to bring his boots for the derby!
Steven Pienaar scored 18 league goals in 175 appearances for Everton, and fans are over the moon that the 36 year-old has been named the club’s first international ambassador.
Pienaar announced his retirement from football earlier this year, having played four times this season for South African side Bidvest Wits.
The tricky winger earned 61 international caps in his career, and was a fan favourite at Goodison for his passion, desire and of course some crucial goals.
Fans have been discussing this weekend’s derby clash with Liverpool, and some have even suggested the South African bring his boots to Goodison!
The two Merseyside clubs have had contrasting fortunes this season, and Everton fans have often felt disconnected from their players after multiple soulless performances.
Bringing Pienaar back to the club should help in that regard though, and fans all agree if the current crop of players showed even an ounce of the 36 year-old’s love for the club it would be an improvement.

Great news. One of my favourite millenial Everton players. Any chance you can play Saturday? Like, any position will do. https://t.co/75ezJWCT7h

You were one of the most skilful players to play for Everton, and I’ve seen them all for the last 65 years watching them, good luck .
