Everton fans are crucifying Thibaut Courtois over the Belgium goalkeeper’s criticism of Jordan Pickford, after the Chelsea man conceded two goals against Japan.

It wouldn’t be an international tournament without the media finding something to bash England about, and this summer the subject of criticism seems to be Pickford.

Excluding a couple of poor moments, Everton’s young stopper had an excellent season after his big money move from Sunderland, earning Gareth Southgate’s trust as England’s number one.

Understandably so for a young goalkeeper playing in his first major tournament, the Everton youngster has looked a little nervous on a couple of occasions, and he took a bashing for conceding to Adnan Januzaj in the 1-0 defeat to Belgium.

The ITV pundits thought he dived wrongly, and Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois threw some extra gasoline on the fire by joking about Pickford’s height.

“The goalkeeper is 10cm smaller than me,” he told Belgian outlet Voetball24.

“I would have caught it. He was too busy throwing his legs in the air.”

Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but he didn’t have a great season by his standards, and Everton fans are bashing him for conceding twice against Japan in Belgium’s dramatic 3-2 win.
