Everton fans discuss Joao Virginia’s imminent loan move to Reading

Lots of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Joao Virginia’s imminent move to Championship side Reading on loan, where he will become Royals boss Jose Gomes’ first signing.

The 19-year-old enjoyed an eye-catching debut season in the Everton Under-23 side last term after joining from Arsenal, keeping nine clean sheets in 13 appearances.

Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…

Toffees boss Marco Silva has already said that the Portugal Under-21 glovesman is ‘on another level’, whilst Under-23 boss David Unsworth was very pleased with the teenager after his debut against Leicester.

Unsworth said: “What he’s done tonight is set a standard I’ve not seen at this level from a goalkeeper.” Virginia also earned a standing ovation from his teammates after that game.

The 6 foot 3 stopper came through the academy at Benfica, following in the footsteps of names such as Jan Oblak, Ederson and Julio Cesar – all of the aforementioned points make him sound like a precocious young goalkeeper.

It will be good for Virginia to go out on loan and get some game time under his belt, as his chances of first-team football at Everton were only made more difficult after the signing of Jonas Lossl – meaning there are now three keepers in front of him.

Let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter have been saying about the news…
