Everton have a stunning youth player on their hands, but his future may just as easily reside elsewhere.

21-year-old Nikola Vlasic is currently away on loan to CSKA Moscow and revelling in the Russian top-division. In 14 games, the Croatian has netted four times and assisted a further two goals, while providing a key pass every 34.3 minutes.

But for all his worth in the Russian Premier League, his European performances have been his standout quality. When competing in the Champions League, the attacking midfielder has scored three times and created two further chances, including an assist as his side humbled Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu – it was Vlasic’s sixth continental fixture of the season, four of which came against Madrid and Roma.

Wednesday night’s win was Vlasic’s second consecutive man-of-the-match performance, and his rise to prominence has caught global attention with US outlets using the Everton loanee to promote the Champions League tie.

His creative abilities have seen comparisons made with Gylfi Sigurdsson, followed by suggestions that he could one day replace the great Icelandic force at Goodison Park.

One issue with that, however, is that Vlasic is currently starring in a competition Everton will struggle to qualify for. And given he plays in the same role as Sigurdsson, would he get the same minutes on the field at Goodison Park that are on offer elsewhere?

It is highly unlikely he’ll settle for the Blues’ bench after setting the world alight at the Bernabeu.

These Everton fans have delivered their verdict on the 21-year-old’s future…
