Everton fans have hailed Duncan Ferguson after his side ran out 3-1 winners over Chelsea on Saturday.

The Toffees ran riot at Goodison Park just days after Marco Silva’s sacking as manager.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think...

Indeed, with Ferguson on the touchline, the club turned in a performance filled with tempo, passion and desire.

A few fans took to Twitter after full-time to claim that the performance was much better than anything Silva offered up during his tenure as manager.

But a number were just particularly happy to see their former striker on the touchline, kicking every ball as a goal from Richarlison and a Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace handed the hosts all three points.

Indeed, per WhoScored, Chelsea outperformed Everton in pretty much every area bar tackles and successful aerial duels, suggesting that this was a case of the Merseyside club wanting it more than Frank Lampard’s men.

The result moved the club into 14th in the Premier League table and it remains to be seen for how long they can keep it up – they face Manchester United and Arsenal in their next two league games – but fans were delighted that Ferguson oversaw a win.

The Premier League has seen a number of former players take charge of their old clubs in recent months and years, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United, Freddie Ljungberg currently at the Gunners and Lampard at Chelsea.

Who is to say that Ferguson couldn’t be the next?

Meanwhile, Marco Silva was let down by one man during his time at Everton.
