Everton fans hail Kenny’s performance against Liverpool

The first Merseyside derby for a local player can be a daunting prospect, but if Jonjoe Kenny had any nerves, he kept them hidden.

The right-back started for Everton as they took on arch rivals Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

With the attacking threat of Sadio Mane facing him, the 20-year-old managed to cope well, despite the first-half onslaught from the hosts.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a curling shot into the top corner, but Liverpool were unable to make the most of their dominance.

Wayne Rooney restricted the Reds to a 1-1 draw after netting from the penalty spot, which was won for the Toffees when Dominic Calvert-Lewin went down under the challenge of Dejan Lovren.

In some moments of the match, Everton were fairly lacklustre, but Kenny’s performance at the back drew praise from the club’s supporters.

The full-back made some pivotal interceptions and blocks to prevent Liverpool from running away with the game.
