Everton fans hit out at Barkley over move to Chelsea

Ross Barkley’s departure from Everton has not come as a huge surprise, but it appears that some fans are not taking it well.

Chelsea announced on Friday that the midfielder has moved to Stamford Bridge on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Widespread media outlets, including BBC Sport, have claimed that the deal cost £15m, which in the current market is fairly modest.

Although it must be said that the 24-year-old’s value would have dropped given that he had just six months left on his contract at Everton.

It was initially thought that Barkley was going to leave Goodison Park in the summer when he decided not to pen fresh terms.

Despite widespread rumours linking him to the Blues and Tottenham Hotspur, the midfielder ended up staying at Everton.

However, the England international has not played a single minute for the Toffees this season due to a hamstring injury.

While some fans would no doubt feel relieved that the saga is over, others have been left reeling at Barkley’s decision to leave.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Everton and was tipped to become a great for the club, but now his career will go in a different direction.

After the news of Barkley’s transfer was announced, fans of the Merseyside club tweeted their reactions.
