When considering that Everton paid just over £7m for Idrissa Gueye, the deal has to go down as one of the best in the club's recent history.

Gueye arrived at Everton from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016, and is closing on 100 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees.

The midfielder scored three times in 38 appearances for Everton last term, and there is no question that he has been one of their better players this season.

Indeed, a number of Everton supporters were pleased with the performance of Gueye against Arsenal despite the Merseyside outfit suffering another disappointing result.

Gueye actually turned 29 on Tuesday, and as expected, Everton's official Twitter account was on hand with a special birthday message for the midfielder.

That prompted a number of responses from the Everton supporters, who were keen to offer the 5ft 9in ace their best wishes, which is always a sign that a player is popular with the fans.
