After a whirlwind summer where Everton looked intent on bringing in a new centre-back to Goodison Park, the transfer window has shut with the Toffees unable to get the job done.

Marco Silva's side chased Chelsea star Kurt Zouma for the majority of the window after the Frenchman's successful loan spell on Merseyside last season, but after failing to entice the Blues into selling him, turned towards his club teammate Fikayo Tomori.

But after getting the same treatment there, a shock swoop for Manchester United's Marcos Rojo was on the cards, and it was reported the Toffees were in talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side over a move on deadline day.

However, Sky Sports have now claimed a possible deal fell through after Everton "baulked" at the fee United were insisting on receiving for Rojo, leaving Silva without a new centre-back arrival.

After hearing the update the club pulled out of negotiations for the Argentina international, Everton fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many appeared to be delighted with the news Rojo wouldn't be arriving at Goodison Park and proclaimed they "dodged a bullet" by missing out on the 29-year-old's signing.

Indeed, some simply suggested the club should look towards using its talented youth players and insisted they have the players to fill in at centre-back.

Check out some of the relieved reaction of Everton fans below:
