According to an interview he conducted with TyC Sports, via Argentina media outlet Ole, Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has revealed his frustration at his current situation at Goodison Park and how he tried to secure a move to River Plate during the January transfer window, and Toffees fans have been quick to react to his comments.

Speaking to TyC Sports, via Ole, the 6ft 1in centre-back said: "I wanted to go back to River to get my fitness back and go to the World Cup in a good condition, so I asked my representative [about a move] but it was difficult, now it's over and everything is fine.

"If I did not have so many minutes after the injury it was because of the decisions of the coach [Allardyce]."

Despite returning to full training last month following almost a year on the sidelines because of injury, the 27-year-old is yet to make any of the Merseyside outfit's squads in the Premier League, even though Ashley Williams has missed their last two top flight encounters through suspension and the Goodison Park faithful have been keen for him to start.

Everton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Argentina international's quotes, and while one said "get Allardyce out", another said "he's not a top 6 side player so he can toddle off wherever he wants".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
